June 5, Beijing: Journalists Cheng Guohui, Zhao Yongping, Li Tongxin have the story: The 6th Beijing International Car Exhibition is held from June 6-12 at China Beijing International Exhibition Center. About one thousand car manufacturers from some 20 countries gather here with a space floor for exhibition of 70 thousand sq.m, which is 14 thousand sq.m more than that of two years ago. This Exhibition has exceeded the former five sessions in terms of its scale and its high-grades. And it is regarded as the second biggest exhibition in Asia only next to Tokyo Car Exhibition. According to the introduction of the foreign economic Technology Cooperation China is speeding up the process of joining WTO, which has become the booster for this exhibition. On Nov. 15 China and America sign the bilateral agreement in terms of China's joining the WTO. Since then, many car manufacturers especially those foreign ones, show that they are keen on enlarging the space for exhibition, and increase the cars to be on show. On May 19th when China and European Allies sign bilateral agreement in terms of China's joining WTO, quite a few manufacturers have decided to take part in the exhibition. These manufactures areas from 17 countries and Hong Kong specially administrative area including America, Japan, Germany, France, Great Britain, Sweden, South Korea, and Italy. About 700 car manufacturers from Taiwan took part in the Exhibition groups with strong lineup and twenty-three whole-car manufacturers were formed by the following seven countries, South Korea, Czechoslovakia and Spain. Seventeen ministries and commissions, general companies, car group of companies and association groups take part in the exhibition. The Exhibition not only started using the newly-built No. 8 exhibition Hall covers 70 thousand sq.m, which is the largest in the history of exhibition construction in our company. The exhibition floor were shared by Chinese and foreign car manufacturers in a fifty-fifty way. All the world-famous whole-car manufacturers have taken part in the Exhibition without exception. They are as follows: Benz, Puma, Audi, General, Ford, Fiat, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Suzuki, Fuji, Jtuko, Mercedes, Volvo etc.. And some ten cars spare parts manufactures also took part in the exhibition. Having advantages of favorable weather conditions, land productivity and the support of people, domestic car manufacturers showed courage and vied with others in taking part in the exhibition, to display their own powerful products. No. 1 car groups of companies, Dongfeng, Shanghai, Chongqing group of companies. The ministry of communication, China Weapon Equipment Group, China weapon Industry Group, China Aviation No.1 and No.2 Group, and other car manufacturers, altogether 17 groups took part in the exhibition. Famous whole-car manufacturers at home take part in the exhibition. The subject of this car exhibition as follows: Meeting the great economic leap-forward in the new century, showing the leading position of science and technology in car-making industry. There were 180 cars on exhibition in International Hall while 250 cars in Domestic Hall. Besides cars there were some other kinds of vehicles on show such as power-operated, mixed power-driver, model cars and racing cars, multifunctional business frocks, touring cars, big and medium-sized buses, loading and crossing-country vehicles, cars for special purpose and motorcars were also on show. Foreign car manufacturers display their powerful capacity with various kinds of luxurious cars and mini cars that are fit for China's conditions in order to make their main types of cars to show the progress in car-making industry. According to Exhibition Committee, the striking feature of this exhibition is that Domestic joint ventures together with foreign car manufacturers would take part in the exhibition in the capacity of transnational Group. This combination with their own brand. And this is also a test for cars made by joint ventures.
